Corridor + transitions
We had a 16 ft x 8 ft x 4 ft corridor to design, considering what a transition through space could be. I drew 5 case studies to scale below, considering specific transitions: smooth to rough, natural to unnatural, simple to complex, light to dark, and explosion to implosion. As a group, we came up with the concept of a gradient effect from white to black. We painted 5 inch thick strips of photo paper that could wrap the interior, and allowed the crinkle of the paper and the way it interacts with the corridor to create the shape of this gradient. All teams were to assemble our corridor during the final review in 20 minutes. The scientific process of understanding and creating the simple gradient from white to black was our own transitional journey.
